Power Of Attorney and Declaration of Representative

In order for a third party to access and see you in front of the IRS, it is necessary to submit a Form 2848 to the agency. This form serves as a legal authorization for the designated individual to receive and review your tax information.

You may be amicable with the notion “power of attorney” in the context of authorizing another person to act on your behalf legally, such as in making health care or financial choices. The IRS does not obtain such extensive authority through the use of Form 2848, Power of Attorney and Declaration of Representative. It just gives someone else the authority to deal with the IRS on your behalf. Examples of this are: payment arrangements, power of attorney, copies of IRS notices, responses to notices, transcripts from your IRS account, and appeals of IRS decisions can all be handled by an agent.

No closing documents, waivers, or returns can be signed by them. And they can’t put their names to anything on behalf of taxpayers.
